Dip and Squeeze: Marketing genius – Domain failure

A yummy new packaging for a yummy condiment.

Three years ago, the H.J.Heinz Corporation started its redesign of an item used in thousands of fast food locations around the world: the ketchup pack.

Since then, several million dollars were invested in research and development of a new ketchup container that will deliver the product in a cleaner, safer, faster manner.

Instead of ripping the traditional pack with your teeth, you are now presented with a hybrid pack that can act as a dipping container or as a squeezable pack.

The new “Dip and Squeeze” pack delivers three times as much ketchup.

Heinz also registered three trademarks:

  • Dip And Squeeze
  • Dip N’ Squeeze
  • Dip & Squeeze

Despite the fact that they invested millions of dollars and filed for the trademarks exactly two years ago, they left the domain DipAndSqueeze.com out of their budget!

That’s right, DipAndSqueeze.com was registered in 2010 by someone else other than Heinz and it’s currently parked. Definitely a UDRP in the making and that’s a lot of ketchup.
