Thousands of domainers are rushing for a last minute shopping spree, as the price of .ORG domains goes up on July 1st.
There were reported instances of crashed servers due to large traffic, at GoDaddy, Name.com, eNom and Fabulous.com.
“It’s incredible what a small pending price increase can do to consumer initiative,” said Linda Orgullo of the .ORG Registry.
“At 49 cents a pop, that’s not much but to a consumer with a good chunk of .ORG domains that’s a lot of savings prior to the price increase”, she added.
To bring the price increase into perspective: Domainers that have 1,000 .ORG domains, would face a price increase of $490 right there.
Many domainers are hoping that somehow the new ICANN CEO, Fadi Chehadé, will terminate the amassing of funds that skyrocketed in the years of Rod Beckstrom and will order the lowering of fees by the Registries.
