Less than 60 days after hiring top executive, Rakesh “Rocky” Agrawal as its director of strategy, PayPal has laid him off.
Agrawal was fired after he twitted a series of increasingly insulting messages, most likely under the influence of alcohol.
While at Jazz Fest in New Orleans, the now former PayPal executive tweeted about PayPal’s VP of global communications with “Duck you Smedley you useless middle manager” and “Christina Smedley is a useless piece of shit.”
In the morning, Agrawal issued an apology stating that the messages were meant for a colleague, to test an android phone.
Right.
PayPal didn’t buy any of this and summarily fired Rakesh Agrawal, with the following statement on Twitter:
“Rakesh Agrawal is no longer with the company. Treat everyone with respect. No excuses. PayPal has zero tolerance.”
Obviously, an ironic termination to a career that abused a social medium to deliver insulting messages to co-workers and employees of PayPal.
