Go Montenegro! Go! Go! Go!
And by that, we don’t mean the country or the popular dot .me registry. 😀
It seems that GoDaddy uses several registrar outfits to keep a large piece of the domain registration pie when connections to a registry are numbered.
One of our .XXX registrations went through Go Montenegro Domains Inc, which is nothing but GoDaddy under a separate company.
And that’s why GoDaddy was so successful with the .XXX registrations: more than half of the 56,000 or so .XXX registrations were made through GoDaddy!
Meanwhile, registrars such as DomainMonster failed miserably to grab the domains we wanted.
Other GoDaddy outfits include:
Go Australia Domains, Inc.
Go Canada Domains, Inc.
Go China Domains, Inc.
Go France Domains, Inc.
When I read the title of the post, I thought GoDaddy was launching a $1 .ME promo 🙂 Too bad.
Why did they choose such as a strange name? Was it for the past .ME auctions?
GoDaddy is “Domain savvy” ; it not only understands how to market domains(to men at least) but how to play the system, legally. I think the other registrars should feel very offended by this but also pinch themselves hard. At $100 per .XXX domain(then multiply by over 28,000 domains), GoDaddy definitely made some cool cash!
BTW, I have seen at least 3 or 4 replicas of this http://www.gomontenegrodomains.com/ but of course under different domains.
DomainsAfrica – From my understanding, they formed a series of corporations named after a set of country names. They could have picked another set, e.g. animals, flowers or constellations.
Guess that Godaddy learned from the .eu fiasco. Same MO was used by US and Canadian players to snarf a load of .eu domains in the Landrush – a very costly mistake as it turned out.
