Often times, the Chinese do not understand the American culture, despite their good effort to do so. A fine example is the recent incident of Chinese TV media mistaking a sex toy for a mushroom.
And now, they’ve done it again.
A Chinese company offers sunglasses under the name “Helen Keller” at HelenKeller.cn
For those that skipped classes at school, Helen Keller was an award-winning American author and activist who just so happened to be both blind and deaf.
To see Helen Keller’s name be used as a brand for visual accessories, is at least ironic – if not insulting. Incidentally, today is Helen Keller’s birthday; she was born on June 27, 1880.
Would you buy a Helen Keller pair of sunglasses? We would not.
