Sale of Mode.com confirms generics are in fashion

The word ‘mode‘ has a different meaning in languages other than English. In French, German and Italian, it’s related to ‘fashion‘ and trends in clothing and style.

It came as no surprise that the domain name, Mode.com was just sold on Sedo – apparently for a large amount of money.

For at least 5 years, Mode.com was the portal to an online shop showcasing fashion links in various countries.

The Swiss former owners sold Mode.com via Sedo and the new owners have not changed the DNS yet, according to top WHOIS tool, DomainTools. The WHOIS info has now been hidden.

Definitely a confirmation that generic domains are still the strongest brandable outpost of dot coms.

what an uninformative article. is there anything else we shouldn’t know?

I wished I could have bought that name because I get to keep the MODELS too.

IMO, the best short fashion .com brandables and generics are literally the best long-term domain investments. Fashion ecommerce has a huge pool of end-user buyers compared to any other vertical. And all these potential end-user buyers are in very image-driven and marketing-driven business, much more so than other verticals. And it ain’t going nowhere as women will always spend a large percentage of their disposable income on fashion. Profits on selling TVs, DVDs, CDs, books will dwindle towards zero. Profits in fashion will always be huge.

RaTHeaD – The size of my wrath 😛

    BullS – That’s a great idea.

Jon – I fully agree. Fashion designers make millions, and the H&M owner is a billionaire.

My wrath is bigger than yours!
