Facebook announced the launch of ‘Home‘ – an overlay app that presents a constant, live canvas on your Android phone’s home screen.
The new, interactive method of content presentation is smooth and continuous.
One can add feeds from important Facebook friends, or content normally accessible through Facebook. The Facebook content on your ‘Home’ is called Facebook Coverfeed; unfortunately, CoverFeed.com is not owned by Facebook.
Presenting ‘Facebook Home‘, Mark Zuckerberg described how this overlay of information and app interactivity, is one swipe away from your Android phone’s lock screen or home screen. Other apps can keep running in the background, while the Facebook Home overlay takes priority. This is particularly useful when one needs to chat or communicate with their Facebook friends, through Facebook messages and SMS.
The appearance of face avatars during the exchange of messages on the Facebook Home app, was referred to as ‘ChatHeads‘. Facebook does not own ChatHeads.com.
Incidentally, Facebook does own FacebookHome.com – meanwhile, Frank Schilling owns the much more generic HomeScreen.com.
Facebook Home can be downloaded from the Google Play store, starting April 12th. Looks like a very exciting product launch from Facebook, altogether! 😀
