DomainState.com sold for (at least) $46 grand – Next on the chopping block, DBR?

It appears that old school domain forum, DomainState.com has been sold at a private auction.

The winner is Above.com which will fork out at least $46,000 for the domain/web site & database of happy fellows and their posts over the course of seven years. The database includes banned members as well.

Congratulations to the trio of owners – affectionately referred to as “The Three Amigos” – who will split the money three ways.

Meanwhile, rumors that uber-domainer nest DBR (we cannot spell it out due to secrecy reasons) might be the next sleepy hollow to go on the chopping block, as old school domainers realize there is little money in managing forums themselves, were left unconfirmed.

  1. Wow, $46,000 split three ways for these experienced domainers. That’s around $2,000 a year each for the thousands of hours each of these guys put into the forum. In my dealings with these gentlemen over the years I can safely and confidently state they didn’t do it for the money. They get a few bucks on the way out the door, good for them…but more importantly they provided a good place to go to talk about domains for a good portion of a decade. Thanks guys for giving enough a shit to provide a place tfor me and more to hang our coats and have a chat; it was appreciated.

Good luck tto the new owners.

Thank you for your comment Shaun – I expect an onslaught of monetization from the new owners, Above.com. Oops, did I say “onslaught”? I meant to say, a tsunami of banners and affiliate hotlinks 😀 They are, after all in the business of converting traffic to money. They didn’t buy DomainState for its rich history.

  3. Good for them. I hope they make millions. Everyone and their dog is trying to get piece of the “domainer” pie. These guys put up the dollars .. they deserve the rewards.

Don’t they realize that domainers almost never click on ads?
