Texan’s application for .nukular gets rejected on Hiroshima day

A Texan domainer isn’t all too happy today, after ICANN rejected his application for the gTLD .nukular.

Bob W. Shrub, a prominent rancher and domain investor from Rusty Hills, Texas, spent the past four and a half years promoting the anticipated registration of .nukular. Today, all these efforts will go to an anti-climactic waste.

The rejection letter from ICANN clarifies the reason behind this costly rejection, to the tune of $185,000 dollars:

“As a promoter of humanitarian efforts to sustain global peace and being a natural protector of the Internet, ICANN has established a firm stance towards gTLDs that promote war, hatred, racism and other such unreasonably violent domain manifestations.

The rejection of .nukular is a reaffirmation of our support of peaceful co-existence, after the signing of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons by ICANN, last summer. We regret to inform the applicant that their application of .nukular is hereby rejected.”

Today also marks the day that the first nuclear bomb was used against imperial Japan, in the bombing of Hiroshima, on August 6, 1945. Thousands of civilians died during the blast and thousands more were affected by the radioactive fallout; its effects lasted for generations since.

It is refreshing seeing ICANN assume an active role in the efforts towards world peace; the rejection of .nukular is a great example about how stupid and arrogant some gTLD applications can be.
