Domain Name Jargon #0007: Acquisition

These domains don't even qualify for pigeon shit.

Most domain acquisitions are pigeon sh*t.

The primary goal of the Domain Name Jargon series is to educate the hordes of clueless domainers, who believe that they know everything about the domain industry.

The truth is, that a lot of misinformation – intentional or not – exists in domaining; we are here to correct that, and (re)define domaining!

By following the Domain Name Jargon series, you are on a good course to becoming a smarter, better, bolder domain investor.

Acquisition (of a domain) :  Domain acquisitions, often misspelled as “acqusitions”, are pompous announcements of one’s hand-registration or otherwise overpaid purchase of domains, in the secondary domain market.

Often announced through blog posts but also via free press release services, domain acquisitions aim to announce the future availability of esoteric domain names by their owners and gain some type-in traffic that otherwise would not exist.

Quality domains rarely make it to the acquisition stage, because they get developed into real businesses, products or services, versus becoming mere projections of a domain flipper’s current cash flow.

Example: “Some recent domain acquisitions that I cannot disclose their price include, MashedTaters.org, FuturisticMoms.com and DiscoverFreshFood.com. I’m probably going to sell; accepting offers in the $x,xxx range for each, no lowball offers for these acquisitions.”
