After a three day downtime, ICANN announced the return of its Centralized Zone Data Service (CZDS).
While there was no clear reference to a particular glitch or even a security issue, ICANN stated that the system did not respond as expected when the issue occurred.
“This is to inform you that the Centralized Zone Data Service (CZDS) is now back online. As previously communicated, the CZDS was temporarily taken offline to investigate a technical issue.
The system had been designed with a robust set of management features for registry users, but it came to our attention that some of those registry user features did not work as intended or caused user confusion.
While we’ve made some changes to registry user features, the end user experience remains the same.”
In the meantime, the total number of gTLD domains in the zone files surpassed 666,000 today – a jump of almost 8% from the last count.
With more gTLD domains being introduced every week, one has to wonder at which point will the registries make the final push for raising public awareness, as opposed to simply involving domainers; the latter are often opinionated and appear to be polarized over the issue.
Those unwilling – or unable – to deduce the many benefits of gTLD domains and brands, remain seated at the domainer bleachers; the price for missing the Steamboat of Progress is a very expensive ride ticket later on.
