The premium three letter .com domain, DNS.com, appears to have changed ownership, via a sale that materialized a couple of days ago.
DNS by Comodo surprised many when it rebranded in April of 2013, “abandoning” DNS.com. They are now actively using DNSbyComodo.com.
In April 2013, DNS.com became DNS by Comodo. Now we know why.
The new owner of DNS.com – SmashClicks – has parked the domain on DomainNameSales and marked it as available to lease.
SmashClicks is a domain investments company with such domain assets such as CoInsurance.com, CallWaiting.com and OnlinePapers.com, that are also available to lease.
DNS is a popular acronym for the Domain Name System – a hierarchical distributed naming system for computers, services, or any resource connected to the Internet or a private network. It is the quintessential method of accessing domains on the Internet.
While there are no monetary records of this apparent sale, we would expect such an important acronym to fetch a pretty penny, well into the six figure range.
DNS.com was first owned by Tihan, later sold or leased to Dan Kimball, and then Kimball sold the company to Comodo. SmashClicks is Tihan again. A sale or expired lease.. not sure.
