Someone should give the US Treasury some marketing and branding tips as they apply to domain names.
The upcoming redesigned $10 dollar bill isn’t due for circulation until 2020; in the meantime, there is a twitter campaign using the hashtag #TheNew10.
The plan of the US Treasury is to select a prominent American woman for the face of a new $10 dollar banknote, substituting Alexander Hamilton, the first United States Secretary of the Treasury.
In the coming months, potential candidates for the new ten dollar bill will be announced, and the web site for “The New 10” is at thenew10.treasury.gov.
A lot of people will be heading to the matching .com, however, and by not spending roughly that amount to register it, the US Treasury is failing at marketing level.
Indeed, someone registered TheNew10.com earlier today, according to DomainTools. The domain was registered before and dropped; the .org has been registered since 2014.
Also, TheNewTen.com has been registered since 2007 and its registrant wants $499 for it. That’s almost 50 new tens. 😀
