ICANN’s rules on new gTLD applications are clear: if you don’t use it, you lose it.
With that basic rule in mind, Bangladesh – the country – has lost the rights of using dot .Bangla, because they failed to launch it within three years of getting approval in 2012.
Bangladesh uses .BD for its national ccTLD and naturally, that’s not affected.
With new gTLD applications costing a base charge of $185,000 at minimum, that money is now lost, but it might be a temporary loss.
The Bangladesh ministry officials did not comment on the cancellation of dot .Bangla when asked; meanwhile, they are trying hard to regain the domain.
