Can you trademark a number in China?
Apparently so, especially when it’s as famous as the one used in 360.com, the $17 million dollar domain belonging to Chinese giant company Qihoo.
Qihoo 360, by far China’s largest security software provider, filed the lawsuit in February and claimed that an Internet financial company named 360 Daidai Web had a similar trademark and made use of its popularity to attract users. Qihoo is seeking 30 million yuan ($4.49 million dollars.)
The domain and web site at 360daidai.com, has now been been frozen, making it impossible to be transferred, canceled or changed. The trial is pending.
Meanwhile, the Chinese domain market is maintaining its low profile throughout July.
Despite the recent sale of YK.com for a reputed $900,000 dollars, the domain “Chips” market is rather minimal in both volume and prices.
