Chicago-based Dermacare LLC, operators of BlueChew, boosted their erectile dysfunction pill portal by acquiring the domain Chew.com.
The domain changed hands on or around March 15, 2021. The company filed for the registration of the mark CHEW.COM in late March:
Health counseling; Internet-based health care information services; Providing health information.
The mark’s application for registration at the USPTO was filed with an “intend to use” clause. The domain Chew.com forwards to BlueChew.com.
Prior to its apparent sale, the domain Chew.com hosted content related to food, as seen in this Archive.org capture from late February.
Why was CHEW.COM applied for as a trademark at the USPTO?
Itβs an ongoing trend among owners of generic domain names, following the decision by SCOTUS on the Booking.com trademark application.
Since then, dozens of generic domain names have been applied to be registered as trademarks, inclusive of the TLD. We keep track of these applications, and so far none has been decided upon.
As of January 5th, 2021, BOOKING.COM is a registered trademark with the USPTO.
Will these applications become the new norm? Watch this video from NamesCon Online 2020.
