DNForum and NamePros on the alleged #Epik data breach

Users of domain forums, DNForum and NamePros are actively debating the alleged data breach at Epik, a much publicized incident involving Anonymous.

Epik, operating from Epik.com, is a domain registrar that is known outside of the domain investing community for “providing services to websites that host far-right, neo-Nazi, and other extremist content.”

In recent days, Epik accepted the controversial domain ProLifeWhistleblower.com after GoDaddy terminated its hosting services for violation of its terms.

So far, Epik has not commented publicly on claims that their servers were compromised. The alleged attack involves as much as 180 Gb of sensitive data from Epik.com that was somehow made available on the internet.

Among domain investors, Epik remains a popular registrar offering competitive pricing and add-on perks. Epik owns and operates DNForum.com, after acquiring it from its previous owners earlier in 2021.

The main discussion thread about Epik.com appears to involve more supporters at DNForum. On DNForum, the following message was shared as an email from Epik (unconfirmed legitimacy confirmed:)

At Epik, we take security and the privacy of your information very seriously. Therefore as a precautionary measure, I am writing to inform you of an alleged security incident involving Epik.

Our internal team, working with external experts, have been working diligently to address the situation. We are taking proactive steps to resolve the issue. We will update you on our progress. In the meantime please let us know if you detect any unusual account activity. I am proud of our team’s efforts as we do our part to empower a thriving internet for the benefit of our customers around the world.

You are in our prayers today. We are grateful for your support and prayer. When situations arise where individuals might not have honorable intentions, I pray for them. I believe that what the enemy intends for evil, God invariably transforms into good.

Blessings to you all.

Regards,

Rob Monster

Meanwhile, at NamePros, the Epik data leak discussion is mixed in its bias but considerably more lengthy; NamePros admins that perused the allegedly leaked data consider it apparently “real:”

It does appear to be real. There’s an awful lot of data and I don’t have time to comb through it all right now, but here’s what I’ve seen so far for Anonymize users, which is a smaller, more approachable dataset than the registrar data.

The situation will occupy daily security reports on the internet until a more clear picture is shared on the circumstances of the alleged data leak.
