The SCOTUS decision on Booking.com has led many registrants of generic domain names to file for trademark registration at the USPTO.
These applications include the TLD, and so far it’s all about .com domains.
We keep track of these applications, as an interesting twist of how generic domain names apply to be used as a trademark.
The most recent application is by the operators of Aircraft.com, a domain that updated its landing page in June of 2020.
The trademark application is for “providing a website featuring data and information relating to aircraft; Providing an online electronic database featuring data and information relating to aircraft.”
The mark’s first use is claimed as of June 12, 2020 and it’s going with the “safe” route of a stylized mark:
“The mark consists of a stylized depiction of a portion of an airplane followed by the term “AIRCRAFT.COM”.”
Without doubt, Aircraft.com is a splendid domain name, and we’ll see in the months ahead whether its trademark application will be approved.
