AliExpress is an online retail service based in China, owned by the Alibaba Group. Launched in 2010, it is made up of small businesses in China and other Asian locations, offering products to international buyers.
The web site commands a lot of traffic, and it comes as no surprise that a typo, AliExpeess.com, is currently in a DropCatch auction at four figures USD.
Chinese domain speculators, attracted to the domain’s apparent typo-traffic, are most likely bidding. The auction is at $1,550 dollars with three hours to go.
AliExpress is a trademark of the Alibaba Group, a powerful Chinese company that in the past has been quite protective of its brand.
Still, domain speculators and typosquatters go after trademarks, or typographic errors of domains with high amounts of traffic, attempting to monetize it. For example, AliExpees.com – different from the one in auction – is a zero click traffic trap, registered to a registrant from China.
Surprised?
