Former US president, Bill Clinton, expressed his grave concerns over a plan promoted by ICANN to strip the US of its Internet oversight.
Bill Clinton spoke at the Arizona State University, alongside Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales; they both doubted the benefits of such a change.
Not holding back his words, Clinton stated that a global oversight system will in fact enable governments to impose a stronghold on the Internet and gag all freedom of speech:
“I understand in theory why we should have a multi-stakeholder process…I just know that a lot of these so-called stakeholders are really governments that want to gag people, and restrict access to the Internet.”
