Brisbane 2032 – it’s the home of the XXXV Olympiad. With the Tokyo Olympics ante portas, the announcement about Brisbane, Australia, was made today.
Brisbane was first announced as the preferred bid on 24 February 2021, gaining the formal approval of the IOC Executive Board.
Australia has hosted the Summer Olympic games twice before: in 1956 in Melbourne and in 2000 in Sydney. This will be their third hosted Olympiad!
Meanwhile, the domain name Brisbane2032.com has been registered since 2008! It was most likely the same registrant as that of Brisbane2024.com; HugeDomains holds the now useless domain Brisbane2028.com.
It’s not clear who is the registrant of Brisbane2032.com but fresh registrations by Chinese registrants involve the domains Brisbane2032.net and Brisbane2032.org.
These domains are up for sale, which will most likely trigger the ire of the International Olympic Committee that is very protective of such Olympic marks, including the designated city/year combination.
The Australian domain, Brisbane2032.com.au is simply parked. The official page is at Brisbane2032.org.au, a domain registered to the Australian Olympic Committee since February. For the time being, it’s parked at GoDaddy.
