Microsoft announced the launch of CoreAI – Platform and Tools, as a new division that will bring together Dev Div, AI Platform, and some key teams from the Office of the CTO (AI Supercomputer, AI Agentic Runtimes, and Engineering Thrive), with the mission to build the end-to-end Copilot & AI stack.
The CoreAI group will also build out GitHub Copilot, thus having a tight feedback loop between the leading AI-first product and the AI platform to motivate the stack and its roadmap.
Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO, shared the news on the Microsoft blog.
Meanwhile, an interesting situation is unfolding as the domain CoreAI.com, registered in 2012, is in redemption currently. Other TLDs, such as the matching .org, are being offered for thousands of dollars.
The fact that Microsoft is using the term “CoreAI” as a single word indicates that the exact match .com would be the best representation of the brand.
The domain Core.ai is being used by a software company that creates tools for building web sites, thus complicating the new CoreAI brand by Microsoft.
Lastly, the mark COREAI has been applied for registration at the USPTO, further complicating the path for Microsoft brand’s recognition, in our opinion.
