“Hello Kremlin, we have a situation in Ukraine.”
The ongoing tension in parts of Ukraine bordering Russia, is causing plenty of anxiety among the locals, just days after the Sochi Olympics ended.
Facing the unfortunate prospect of another regional war with the potential to become a global crisis, domain investors reacted proactively.
“I registered several domain names about a war between the Ukraine and Russia, and some nuclear variants just in case,” says Mike “Trollbeast” Ryan, a teenage, self-proclaimed domain flipper.
“By registering these domains I am making some solid investments, unlike those fools that register gTLDs and junk,” adds Ryan, who often goes by the nicknames ‘Rob’, ‘Adam’ and ‘Fadi’ in various domain investing blogs.
While some would refer to this practice as a ruthless attempt to capitalize on the eventual pain, horror and death of millions, world war III related domains have the potential of bringing in some long term revenue – as long as any fallout from a nuclear winter is averted.
“I made sure that all my World War 3 domains are .com, and I skip those that aren’t, even if the single keyword is available – that’s what I’ve been told that works,” says Mike Ryan, adding:
“Too bad I wasn’t around during World War 2, there would be some excellent opportunities to make money from all the countries that got involved!”
Domain speculators are monitoring the developments in Ukraine and Russia closely, expecting sales of related domains to fly off the shelves, on web sites such as Flippa and eBay.
