Edward Snowden, the former NSA contractor who has found asylum in Russia, appeared on TED Vancouver today.
Speaking to the crowds through a specially designed touch-screen terminal, Edward Snowden embraced the transition that ICANN has planned, away from US control.
“The people of the world should be free, and the ICANN declaration of independence is a step towards true freedom. Here in Russia, I feel more free than in Hawaii and its crazy drivers,” said Snowden, adding:
“Comrade Putin gave a wonderful speech yesterday, about how the US government doesn’t engage in fair play. I was in tears, and I support the freedom of information. ICANN should be free to walk away from the oppressive control of the US government, finally!”
ICANN officials were elated to receive such support from Edward Snowden, who has been the poster boy of globalism since his voluntary departure from the US.
It is not clear, at this point, whether ICANN will appoint Edward Snowden as a committee adviser and corporate propaganda officer; a position that he’d be truly great at.
“Comrade Putin gave a wonderful speech yesterday, about how the US government doesn’t engage in fair play. I was in tears, and I support the freedom of information. ICANN should be free to walk away from the oppressive control of the US government, finally!”…………..Is it possible Putin will force ICANN to be headquartered in the Ukraine and appoint Snowden as dictator over ICANN?………..Then they will rebrand to UCANN….U being for Ukraine…..UCANN bet your freedom of speech will not be tolerated if this happens……
Aaron – I think you have some great insight on the subject. By moving its HQ to Sevastopol, Crimea, ICANN will finally find the safe harbor it deserved all along. No more expensive trips to Singapore, Hanoi or Kuala Lumpur.
Russia control over ICANN?
Oh, No!
I think USA should not give up the control of ICANN and other aspects of the Internet!
P.S. I’m from Russia.
R – Nothing wrong with Russia, as long as you remove Putin from that equation. 😀
