The beauty of new gTLDs: they can grow in separate verticals, registered by a common subset of registrants.
For example, domain investors from Africa might also register .Boston domains, due to the city’s cultural appeal as a New England metropolis.
Back in November, we pointed out how fast dot .Boston grew, thanks to the apparent mass registration of domains by Epik.
At the time, there were 5,300 dot .Boston domains, and that number has more than doubled since.
Currently, dot .Boston boasts 11,451 domains, according to ntldstats.
At the same time, dot .Africa has 11,849 domains, registered in a linear fashion, as seen below:
Interestingly, we noticed two recent jumps in the number of registrations of dot .Boston, one on November 19th for 1,100 domains, and another on November 27th for 3,600 domains.
The total combined gains of 4,700 domains most likely ended up at Epik, which is now the biggest domain registrar/private investor in .Boston domains, with 7,484 registrations.
At this rate, dot .Boston will surpass dot .Africa before the end of the year! 😀
