Mozilla – the makers of popular web browser Firefox – rolled out a privacy initiative today.
Assisted by EFF, Reddit and 83 other organizations, the ‘Stop Watching us‘ action aims at the establishing of strong privacy protection laws.
Using the domain name StopWatching.us, the Mozilla initiative essentially forms a hack for the phrase:
“The revelations about the National Security Agency’s surveillance apparatus, if true, represent a stunning abuse of our basic rights. We demand the U.S. Congress reveal the full extent of the NSA’s spying programs.”
Mozilla is aiming to gather 500,000,000 signatures at this petition, a tremendous amount of digital protest.
Meanwhile, BuyDomains owns StopWatching.com since 2011, but the real deal was landed by a Chinese entrepreneur, who scored the domain name StopWatchingUs.com.
We’re expecting a huge amount of traffic to end up at the latter, due to the browsing habits of Internet users, once the Mozilla initiative takes off.
