Hamdi Ulukaya is a self-made billionaire, having founded the Chobani yogurt empire in 2005.
In the US, Chobani currently holds a 43% share of the ever popular ‘Greek yogurt‘ market, despite that definition being loose; the so-called ‘Greek yogurt’ is called strained yogurt in Greece, where the process originated.
Once a dominant player in the ‘Greek yogurt’ market, FAGE (Fah-yeh) controls just under 19% of the US market, despite observing traditional methods of yogurt-making during its 87 year history.
Currently involved in a bitter legal battle with his ex wife, Hamdi Ulukaya is being accused of bribing a former FAGE employee with 30,000 euro in order to obtain key secrets of the strained yogurt process. Ulukaya’s former wife claims a 53% stake in the Chobani company.
Hamdi Ulukaya denies the allegations; meanwhile, HamdiulUkaya.com is registered to someone else, who has parked it at GoDaddy.
What a mess!
