ICANN defends its right to hold conferences in Exotic Locations

Exotic Destinations in the heart of winter.

The current weather conditions that have brought travel chaos to much of Europe have prompted ICANN to capitalize on this rare opportunity.

The ICANN selection of exotic locations around the globe to hold the conferences at, has always brought ire and anger among frugal-minded and budget-oriented domainers.

But now it’s time for ICANN to strike back, so to speak.

“Imagine holding an ICANN meeting in Glasgow or in Berlin this time of the year, and being snowed out, stranded at the airport”, said Nicklas Vansker, president of the ICANN Location Selection Subcommittee.

“When we choose locales such as New Delhi, Sumatra, Hawaii or Cartagena for the ICANN meetings, we are being pro-active and weather-conscious”, he added. “ICANN stands by domainers and their right to enjoy a fully-performing ICANN committee that can discuss serious matters in a pleasant, relaxing environment.”

ICANN’s projected meetings for 2011 include such exotic destinations as Balu-Balu in American Samoa, Uagantiki Sama in Papua New Guinea and Malta in Europe.

For each conference the budget is calculated using a secret formula that George Kirikos, Canadian domain investor and financial sleuth is trying to crack currently.
