OSRAM GmbH of München, Germany owns more than 500 trademarks, some dating as back as 1906. That’s more than 100 years ago, for the mathematically challenged.
Apparently, when “Nick Nick” of UK heard that dot .lighting was launching, he thought: “Hmmm, perhaps I could register lighting equipment manufacturers’ names, there’s money to be made!”
Osram.lighting was thus registered and Osram corporation moved in to protect its hundred-plus year old trademark.
Richard G. Lyon, sole panelist, noted that the Respondent, although he didn’t formally respond, expressed his “consent to transfer” the domain name, Osram.lighting to the trademark holders. Apparently, he saw the light after all.
