After an embarrassing auction at TDNAM for a particularly long domain name, GoDaddy – the world’s #1 domain registrar – has been granted a patent at the USPTO.
Patent #12,342,256 produces “…a domain filesystem and microcode capable of extending the current octet limitations of labels, thus increasing the usable domain length to 2,048 characters.”
This patent is a confirmation that GoDaddy is preparing to roll out its Extremely Long Domain Name Marketplace (ELDNM) to supplement the role of TDNAM. The latter, has been plagued by lowball offers for domains parked at Sedo, for several months.
Tricia Applebottom, legal counsel at GoDaddy HQ stated:
“We are excited to have received confirmation that our patent application, filed in 2010, has finally been approved. This is great news, it shows that the ever-slow USPTO has significantly increased its process of patents and trademarks. Prior to that, we were looking into an average of 5 years per application!” exclaimed Miss Applebottom.
GoDaddy’s dominance in the technology patent market has been deemed as second to none; as a matter of fact, GoDaddy patent articles are a close second to daily UDRP posts copied from the National Arbitration Forum email, as presented by Domain Name Wire.
Are you still reading this article? GoDaddy probably owns a patent on that too.
