ProtonMail, the secure, encrypted email provider acquired PM.me, an ultra short two letter domain name.
The domain PM.me will be used as a shortcut for its expanding user base, that currently go to ProtonMail.com.
News of the two letter domain acquisition was shared on social media today:
“We have recently obtained a very special two letter domain name. A shorter ProtonMail alias is coming!”
ProtonMail is a Swiss-based secure email service, created by CERN and MIT scientists; they provide free and easy-to-use encrypted email.
There is no official reference to PM.me at this point, but the domain was listed for sale on Afternic, and changed hands last week, according to WHOIS from DomainTools.
PM.me belonged to a list of premium domain names sold directly by the .ME Registry, and it now forwards to ProtonMail.com.
PM.me is definitely short, memorable and very brandable indeed; GoDaddy uses Go.me and PayPal uses PayPal.me.
Dot .ME is the national ccTLD of Montenegro, and a global “brand domain” according to Google definitions.
Hat tip: Supratik.
Brilliant.
That’s a really nice domain name.
.me is also used heavily in the Middle East for “Middle East” abbreviation. I saw lots of use of .me in UAE on billboards, trucks, cars, signs, etc. last Summer.
