The Syrian Electronic Army, a team of self-styled hackers that have scored some high profile attacks against domain registrars and web sites, has infiltrated MarkMonitor.
By accessing the user management panels, the SEA hackers briefly accessed the domain accounts of Facebook, Yahoo and Google and changed the WHOIS info for Facebook.com.
The temporary change in the WHOIS info of Facebook.com was recorded in the screenshot below, taken from DomainTools:
MarkMonitor scrambled to take down the domain control server and restored the contact information for Facebook.com, that had been changed to an address in Damascus, Syria, temporarily.
Is there no safe registrar to keep high profile domains these days? 🙁
