Almost a year after its roll-out, Goodies.co, a snack subscription service that Wal-Mart introduced, has been shut down.
Before the usual attacks on the .CO TLD begin, let’s just say that the Wal-Mart service displayed several issues of unsustainability, shared in the past by such mega-flops in the .com realm: WebVan.com, Pets.com, Kozmo.com were all in the consumer delivery business.
The truth is, that despite many claims of traffic leakage to the .com, Alexa rankings show no such trend; Goodies.co failed as a business venture, period. If you can’t keep customers happy, the domain itself makes no difference.
Wal-Mart displays the following somber message on Goodies.co:
“Dear Goodies Users,
We thank you for being an engaged member of the Goodies community. We’ve had such fun sharing our tasty food discoveries with you and hope you found some new favorite snacks along the way.
When we launched Goodies Co as a test from WalmartLabs, our goal was to build a completely new, affordable way to discover and buy new products. Your input has been invaluable and we’re eager to bring a bit of that Goodies magic to the world of Walmart shopping. We can’t tell you much more about what we’re working on just yet, except that we’re excited.
Please contact us at customercare@goodies.co with any questions.
Thanks for your support as a loyal customer and we hope to have the opportunity to serve you again in the future.”
We aren’t sure what will happen to this nice, brandable domain name but all truth be told, we aren’t big fans of Wal-Mart!
