Thirty years after the registration of the first .COM domain, the Internet serves as a beacon of information.
News moves around the globe at the speed of light, even if it happens in the middle of the night.
Hey, that almost rhymed.
The Kingdom of Tonga is one island bigger; after a volcanic eruption created a beautiful new island with its own naturally formed “caldera”.
Shaped like a tropical fish, the new Tonga island of Wapa Lau – “beautiful mermaid” in the local dialect of Tonganese – is the latest geographical name in the world.
And yet, no-one has registered the obvious dot .COM as of this minute.
According to DomainTools, WapaLau.com is still available; the domain isn’t taken in the Tonga ccTLD, dot .to either.
Would you have registered it 30 years ago?
After all, Symbolics.com – the first domain ever registered – is not exactly generic.
It took a little over an hour after this post for the domain WapaLau.com to be registered. Congratulations to the new owner!
