The successful roll-out of several new gTLDs by Donuts, Inc. can be attributed to their market research.
At the top of the gTLD leaderboard, dot .Guru has become something of a cult gTLD. If Steve Jobs were alive today, he’d probably want one.
But should Donuts, Inc. expand its current gTLD portfolio even further?
An incident among candidates for the spot of the Los Angeles County sheriff, shows that there is plenty of potential right there for a dot .Sheriff gTLD. 😀
Jim Hellmold and Jim McDonnell, candidates for the sheriff job, found out that their names were being used in various combinations of domain names.
They are suspecting that another candidate’s campaign officials, secured these domains, forwarding them to Paul Tanaka‘s candidacy web site instead.
JimHellmoldForSheriff.com was taken, so was JimHellmold2014.com and others; all were registered the same day that the sheriff’s office spot became available and the job vacancy was announced.
The domains are now parked, but the controversy is seen as “juvenile” by the two candidates, who expected a more honest behavior among police officers.
Tanaka is leading the race, with more than $380,000 dollars raised in endorsements. That’s enough cash to apply for two gTLDs of his own.
Perhaps the two other candidates should consider .Guru instead, or wait until Donuts, Inc. rolls out dot .Sheriff for cases like this. 😀
