This year, the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) turns 20.
Following adoption by ICANN, the UDRP was launched on December 1st, 1999, and the first case determined under it by WIPO was World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, Inc v. Michael Bosman, involving the domain name worldwrestlingfederation.com.
There are almost 45,000 WIPO cases filed after initiating this global procedure to retrieve domains, and the WIPO will host a conference to commemorate this milestone.
The WIPO conference will be held in Geneva on Monday, October 21, 2019, and the event will examine the present and future of the ADR system design, UDRP philosophy, related Internet developments, and a range of other items.
According to the WIPO announcement, the target audience for this event includes brand owners, trademark practitioners, party counsel, academics, registrars, ccTLD administrators, and other domain name stakeholders.
