Not content with giving away 232,000 free .XYZ domains via Network Solutions, the “generation XYZ” domain Registry is now reaching out to other, lesser Registrars with similar offers.
In its latest newsletter, EuroDNS offers “1000 free domain names” waiving the fee for the XYZ domain of your choice, for the first year:
“Beating the drum for nonconformity, .XYZ is a new domain that’ll make people stare. It’s a quirky extension that marks you as an individual; saying you want to be noticed, you want to be remembered. We have 1000 of these beauties to give to the first 1000 readers who made it this far down our newsletter. Simply enter the promo code NewsletterXYZ in the order process to get your .XYZ domain free for the first year.”
The only “noncoformity” here is that the XYZ domain will be free to register, a move that will surely add to the total number of current “robo-registrations” under the control of Network Solutions.
At least, the EuroDNS offer is not “opt out”, but voluntary – something that Network Solutions did not seem to care about.
If you want a domain with a gTLD that is pronounced “ex, why, zed” in the UK and most of the world, go for it.

No it doesnt. Get it away from me.

I have no problem with this because the registrant has to opt in to get it.
