In August, we delivered the shocking news of how DollarCity.com, a generic, aged domain owned by investor Mike Mann, got hit with a UDRP.
The Complainant, Centroamerica Comercial, Sociedad Anonima de Capital Variable, operates discount stores in Central America.
The Dollar City chain had 15 stores in El Salvador in 2014, so any claims to the “Dollar City” mark would be very new. The chain is virtually unknown outside of Central America.
Meanwhile, Mike Mann’s company, Domain Market, has held DollarCity.com for at least 10 years.
Earlier tonight, it was announced that Mike Mann won the UDRP, and that the verdict also delivered a finding of Reverse Domain Name Hijacking.
“We won big URDP case again. Reverse hijacking. I own 250,000 generic .com domains and very rarely lose any in litigation.”
In recent years, corporations are consistently attempting to wrestle away premium domains, abusing the UDRP process.
Congratulations, Mike! 😀
