Domain future in limbo as Chef gets arrested

The future of an once prominent domain name is in limbo, despite its chef owner offering it for sale – obviously in order to capitalize on its established traffic and former affiliation to the Food Network television channel.

Related to cooking, PastryDude.com is not your average hobbyist domain as it is owned by Chef Juan-Carlos Cruz, a former culinary celebrity with the Food Network.

According to Wikipedia:

Cruz graduated in 1993 from the California Culinary Academy. In 1994 he started working at the Stanford Park Hotel as a pastry chef. In 1996, he started as pastry sous-chef at the Hotel Bel Air. While at the Bel Air he created pastries for celebrities Gary Oldman, Jack Nicholson, Nancy Reagan, Will Smith, Oprah Winfrey, Jim Carrey, Joe Namath, Prince Philip, Julia Roberts and Russell Crowe, among others.

Nine years ago, the chef started PastryDude.com as his own personal web site to promote the Food Network’s show and his own business.

In an odd twist of fate, Juan-Carlos Cruz was arrested on May 13 in Los Angeles, for having solicited at least two homeless persons at the Third Street Promenade to commit a homicide on his behalf.

The domain name PastryDude.com appears to be inactive for at least the past three years and it’s currently being offered for sale.

Being held on a $5 million bond is an indication that the chef won’t be leaving prison anytime soon.

With the domain PastryDude.com expiring at the end of the year, one would expect this 11 year old gem to be released sometime in January, 2011 – or about 15 years earlier than its owner, Juan-Carlos Cruz.
