The news of American Airlines filing for bankruptcy came as no surprise: the airliner has been facing increasing problems with its mounting debt.
American Airlines filed for Chapter 11 reorganization, and in a statement at its web site, AA.com discloses the process:
We expect to continue to:
- Provide safe and reliable service;
- Fly normal schedules;
- Honor tickets and reservations, and make exchanges and refunds as usual;
- Fully maintain our AAdvantage frequent – flyer and other customer service programs, and ensure all AAdvantage miles and elites status earned by members remain secure and intact;
- Provide Admirals Club access and similar amenities to members and eligible customers;
- Remain an integral member of the oneworld alliance, of which American is a founding member, and continue our codeshare partnerships;
- Provide employee wages, healthcare coverage, vacation, and other benefits, without interruption;
- Pay suppliers for goods and services received during the reorganization process.
These filings have no direct legal impact on American’s operations outside the United States.
But is the much coveted domain name, AA.com in jeopardy?
The initial answer, is no.
With Chapter 11 reorganization, there is – generally speaking – no mass selling of assets to pay off creditors, unlike with Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
American Airlines and its domain name and active web site, AA.com are thus expected to survive, after negotiating a restructuring of its debt with its numerous creditors.
Happy holidays, AA! 😀

Good question! I wonder how much the AA.com domain name is worth. Hell it might be able to bail them out of debt. 😛
hey Jason 😀 They might want to sell it to Alcoholics Anonymous, they own the .org 😀
