It’s a mad, mad, mad gTLD world: Joint.Ventures, Peanut.Gallery and X.Guru

Ah, the fun we can finally have with the endless combinations of keyword+TLD! 😀

When ICANN opened the gates for the expansion of the Internet namespace, little did we know that things could happen so fast.

There are some glitches along the way, however.

It's gTLD madness time.

It’s gTLD madness time.

So while dot .Ventures is now an active – and expensive – gTLD from Donuts, Inc., for some reason the combination of Joint.Ventures is impossible to register; “This name is reserved by the Registry in accordance with ICANN Policy.”

Say what?

Why can’t Donuts let Rick Schwartz have some fun with that one? Is there some ongoing vendetta between Rick, and Paul Stahura?

Meanwhile, a Lynda Schuepp registered Peanut.Gallery, apparently as a plan to expand on her business of Penguin Gallery, which operates from ThePenguinOnline.com.

Confused yet? Lynda also registered Penguin.Gallery, just in case. Great play on an antiquated term; let’s see what she does with it, before the lawyers of The Peanut Gallery contact her about an existing trademark.

Lastly, what is the shortest Guru domain you can have?

If you thought of X.Guru, think again; it’s Gu.ru, a nice little domain hack pointed to a Russian lander that coyly asks, “What would you like to see?

We’d like to see more gTLDs, oh great guru.
