Vantablack: Darkest black ever created absorbs the thought of registering the dot .com

Vantablack is the new black.

Vantablack is the new black.

British scientists created the darkest black ever, a hue that absorbs almost all but 0.035% of light – and they dubbed it “Vantablack.”

Surrey NanoSystems created the material almost a year ago, but somehow the press release got delayed, leading to recent coverage by the media.

Vantablack was created using carbon nanotubes, which are 10,000 times thinner than a human hair, so thin that light cannot get in.

Naturally, due to the exposure by the media, someone stepped in and snapped both Vantablack.co.uk and Vantablack.com.

From the looks of it, they are not affiliated with the company, which has recently trademarked the term Vantablack in the UK:

Chemicals used in industry, science and photography; coatings for lenses; liquid coatings; chemical products for the manufacture of protective coatings; chemical additives for use in the manufacture of protective coatings; calibration fluids; radiation absorbing substances and agents; chemical products for absorbing radiation; radiation absorbing compositions; chemical substances for absorbing light; light absorbing compositions; developers for use with light sensitive materials.

Scientific, nautical, surveying, photographic, optical, weighing, measuring, signalling, checking (supervision), and teaching apparatus and instruments; calibration devices; calibration checkers; optical lenses, optical enhancers; optical filters; optical scanners; optical transceivers; optical transmitters; laboratory optical apparatus; optical electronic components; digital optical transmission devices; optical apparatus and instruments; electric sensors; electromagnetic sensors; electromagnetic radiation sensors; radiation sensors; optical sensors; computer software and computer hardware; apparatus and devices for laboratory purposes and for use in the chemical industry and for establishing the properties of materials; magnetic data carriers, calculating machines, data processing equipment and computers; sputtering apparatus and instruments; parts and fittings for all the aforesaid goods.

Surrey NanoSystems will thus most likely have to file a pair of UDRPs to defend its newly registered trademark, that was applied for in February and was granted registration in June.

Both domains were registered yesterday. For more information on Vantablack, click here.
