Wallis and Futuna – Soon to be the First Underwater ccTLD

Like legendary Atlantis, Wallis and Futuna Islands are very close to sinking into the ocean, along with the .wf Registry

According to Wikipedia, the Territory of the Wallis and Futuna Islands is a Polynesian  French island territory in the South Pacific between Fiji and Samoa.

It is made up of three main volcanic  tropical islands and a number of tiny islets.

The territory is split into two island groups lying about 260 km apart: Wallis Islands  in the north and Futuna Islands in the south.

For those that can’t pinpoint Polynesia on the world map, let’s just say it’s far, far away – to the northeast of Australia, in the Pacific.

The constellation of islands comprising Wallis and Futuna has its own country TLD (ccTLD) which is non-surprisingly .WF

We are not sure if the .WF Registry is open for domain registrations, but given the fact that there are only 15,000 inhabitants on the Wallis and Futuna Islands, it comes as no surprise that Sex.wf is not an active web site.

Unfortunately, due to local weather activity, it seems that several islands of the Wallis and Futuna constellation are under imminent danger of flooding, essentially being very close to sinking in the deep, cold waters of the Pacific ocean.

This would make .WF the first underwater ccTLD – potentially requiring scuba diving licenses from anyone willing to register .WF domains, once they become available.

Do you own any exotic ccTLDs?
