In the beginning, there were only three general use TLDs to worry about: .com, .net and .org.
Long gone are the days of having only a triad of domain extensions; with the proliferation of new TLDs, such as .info, .biz and vanity ccTLDs such as .me and .co, the domain universe has expanded.
The Big Bang is about to occur with the introduction by ICANN of gTLDs – a range of domain extensions that can be anything imaginable.
This puts a huge pressure on both career and amateur domainers, that want to utilize every minute of their awaken time to pursue new ventures.
“I stopped sleeping with my wife in the past year and a half, and that led to more successful domain registrations”, says Ludgen Kraaft from Oslo, Norway. “But we also stopped having sex and that led to our eventual separation. Nowadays, I just order Chinese food and get a happy ending extra by the delivery girl”, he adds.
Indeed, relationships are hard to maintain when both parts of a couple are not into domaining. Even among domainer couples, however, it is not uncommon to disagree on the potential of new gTLDs.
“My wife’s a domainer, and she thinks I’m a big puss for not supporting the upcoming gTLD’s”, says Paul Nuetron from California. “I tell her that the future is in the past, that is, the dot com, net and org domains but she won’t listen. Eventually, I will have to agree with her because I’m in the dog house for the 3rd week, no sex!”, he adds.
It’s definitely an issue that Canadian domain investor, George Kirikos repeatedly brought up to ICANN but as usual, ICANN turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the eventual destruction of human relationships of domain registrants.
Dot Whatever -who cares as DomainGang dot com is still number UNO in the internet world.
The more the better as it adds more confusion and more “BullS”
Thank You very much.
A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist
sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”
There is always money to be made!!!
We will be delisting these new TLD’s and I encourage other organizations that want to put an end to this insanity at ICANN to do the same.
We will also be advocating through future forums the removal of ICANN as the regulatory agency and placing the top level registry under the authority of ITU – unpalatable, I admit, but ICANN has now proven they are incapable of being responsible stewards of the domain space.
