There is truth in madness: GoDaddy stops accepting Groupons

In the middle of the GoDaddy Groupon madness, we came up with a parody article about Bob Parsonsthe GoDaddy founder – supposedly getting all upset about the sneaky ways of its customers.

In other words, we predicted the obvious: that once realizing the hole in the process, GoDaddy would attempt to reverse those credits.

After all, buying endless amounts of $70 dollar credit for $25 is a great way for GoDaddy to post a loss at the end of 2012.

While technically the offer ended in 2012, apparently some managed to continue the party into the first week of 2013.

John B., an Internet professional from Texas, emailed us the following last night:

“A real bad mess is happening. Godaddy reversed multiple codes in my account. Left one but killed the others. This means reversed debits and names bouncing out of the account in a temporary holding place until you call with a payment info to make a payment to restore your names.”

This is definitely a nightmare scenario for everyone that did not read, or ignored the rules of the Godaddy Groupon:

“Limit 1 per person. Limit 1 per visit. Limit 1 code per GoDaddy.com account. Valid only for option purchased. Valid online only. Online registration required. Offer valid to U.S. and Canada residents only.”

If you used more than one Groupon in your account, or if you credited your account despite not being a resident of US or Canada, expect a reversal. We aren’t sure how Groupon will handle this, at this point.

Some posts from Slick Deals, the place that apparently started the gaming of GoDaddy Groupons:

“Oh snap! I had $350 in credit and they took away $70. I had already spent around $80 beforehand. Just to be sure, I’ve used up everything except about $50- will use that later when I have time. Nice to see Godaddy doing the ethical thing once again”

“My groupon from recoup was also reversed by godaddy several hours later. Filed a paypal dispute which will take a month to resolve so we’ll see what happens.”

“wtf is this! one of credit of coupon is reversed.”

“Had both credits invalidated by Godaddy. They did not just leave the paid for balance, but invalidated the full amount if that makes sense.”

Once again, truth is stranger than fiction, and parody becomes reality. That’s another reason why you should pay attention to DomainGang.

You can always open another GD account or sell the codes to someone else..

BullS – There’s people that bought dozens of Groupons that are now most likely getting reversed. The services they paid for with these, are getting reversed. Until they sell the codes, they’d have to pay once again for these services: domains, hosting etc. Not sure if it was worth all the work they’ll have to put into this now, trying to sell the Groupons at a discount. Once again, human greed is phenomenal.

LMAO to DomainShame , he was boasting and boasting and boasting how much he saved…

But if you have not used the codes yet, I bet you can sell them ….

There are 2 desires that drive our morality—greed and sex

Anyway, back to my basic lifestyle, shopping at 99cent store, recycle phone books as “Charmin” toilet paper and….lookin for freebies at craigslist

I don’t see the 100% badge, is this article supposed to have it?

Mike H – This is an editorial, not an article. But yes, it’s 100% true. See past editorials at http://domaingang.com/editorial/

BullS – From what I gather from the complaints in that thread, the unused codes are getting invalidated, so you can’t sell them. One has to contact Groupon on this. I’m expecting an increase in charge reversals and even an exodus of domains from GoDaddy.

This is bullshit, I lost $400 on this groupon clustherfuck!! Godaddy should not be able to just reverse the coupons once redeemed. WTF?! Now I have to deal with groupon and godaddy can kiss my ass as i move the domains out. Fuckers!!

  8. DomainGang says:

BullS – I’m not concerned about men that cry, but about those that think it’s cool not to.

Tony – Maybe you should not have been such a greedy b*tch, hmmm?

  9. JO says:

PR nightmare for publicly traded Groupon and PR nightmare for privately held Godaddy as many many domains move domains out en-mass much like SOPA. In fact, call this SOPA2.

This is bad for both of them. Domainers, well – they dont really lose as they dont have multi million dollar company images to maintain OR SHAREHOLDERS TO SATISFY.

    🙂

Tony— you got grouponed F yourself….
