Yesterday’s mindless killing of a dozen people in Washington DC, by former military contractor Aaron Alexis, is yet another big tragedy.
The killer died as well; and the process of healing for the families of those lost during the attack has yet to begin.
As unlikely as it may seem, the domain name AaronAlexis.com was registered by Huge Domains in July of this year.
Formerly known as Portfolio Brains, the private label is a domain drop-catching behemoth in the making, with thousands of domain names in its portfolio.
So why did they register AaronAlexis.com ?
Apparently, in the early 2000’s there was a company by that name in Florida. According to this Archive.org snapshot from 2003, the company specialized in custom construction.
In 2011, the domain re-emerged hosting a single page about ‘Aaron Alexis’ – director, art director, performance artist, video editor and serious creative person. When the domain dropped in 2013, it was snapped by Huge Domains – apparently for its former traffic.
Generally speaking, such domain name registrations of names of either killers or victims are considered tasteless; however, in this case this remarkable coincidence will hopefully make us all focus on the tragedy of those who lost their lives, instead of the killer’s notoriety.
