Russian employee stole domain, according to business owner

A Russian business owner from Moscow is sharing his plight on the Wix platform’s support forum, in an attempt to get a stolen domain back.

Wix offers a unified registration, hosting and building process – a one stop shop for businesses on a shoe-string budget.

According to Yuri Kornev, CEO of Ramenskaya realbaza, a former employee set up the domain at Wix last year; despite being re-imbursed for the cost, he refused to hand over the credentials when he was laid off.

“The name of that employee was Denis Ptchelkin and he was on a trial period with my company (3 months). On the 20th of January 2015 he was dismissed for the failure to meet eligibility requirements set by the company. Unfortunately, he set up domain name and the account with wix.com paid by his personal debit card. Nevertheless, the fee he paid were reimbursed in full from the cashier of the company as well as his remuneration for the trial period. (I have several witnesses).

Meanwhile, he has stolen the access to our corporate domain and our account with wix.com by putting his personal e-mail as a login and renewed password that is unknown for us, thus we cannot edit it and develop further. Moreover, he has blocked the access to the first (title) page of the site.”

The web site at Realbaza.com currently displays a login window that translates as “enter the password to view this page.” Effectively, the former employee is holding the company’s domain and content hostage.

Kornev points out that the company’s inner pages are unlocked, and pleads with Wix to help him reclaim the domain.

Realbaza.com is registered with Network Solutions and its WHOIS is under privacy, according to DomainTools.

There is a lesson to be learned here: never allow employees to control corporate assets under their own name or email. Always protect your digital corporate assets in separate accounts controlled by the company’s owners or high officers.
