With the hype given by Daniel, I expected something like flat $5 renewal for all domains now and in future. This $1 numeric renewal is ZzzzzzZZZZZZzzzzz.. pusssssss

Richard – Last year’s .XYZ promo wasn’t targeting the Chinese. Did you miss the .WS numeric domain fiasco? Now that’s a case that reeks of “pump and dump.”
No I did not miss that.. Of course last years promotion was also targeting China. 3 million .xyz were registered during that promotion, where do you think most of them ended up? And this years promo with the $0.88 price tag is also targeting them. I won’t talk about the insult comparing BTC with .XYZ domains though. Others did that already.
Richard – As far as I know, XYZ is not authorized to sell domains in China since the beginning of May. So according to your logic, any heavily discounted domain targets China? Verisign did the same with .com and .net recently. I don’t see China being a target unless the domains are numeric. The entire concept of numeric domains as a vessel of funds has already popped. Look where the LLLL “chips” are at currently, even LLL .com domains are dropping in value.
Bottom line: whatever works for you.
It’s a promotion that promotes 1.111B numeric domains… Who was behind the whole numeric hype during the last years? Switzerland? No.. China. Promo price is $0.88. Why? Swiss lucky numbers? No. Chinese lucky numbers.

Richard – The promo is for $0.99 by the XYZ Registry. Uniregistry prices all their domains ending in *88 as far as I know.
Promos are done by any Registry and every gTLD or TLD. If Negari thinks he can make money out of it, that’s his prerogative.
Nobody forces you to buy XYZ – or BTC for all I care.
Of course no one is forcing me to buy anything, but that is hardly the point…
I was just making a point that this promotion is targeting the Chinese market and that I am quite confident that they won’t fall for this kind of promotion again. Just my 2 cents. We’ll see how it plays out.
Richard – AFAIK, XYZ is not back to China yet. So while your argument uses a common sense approach, it might not be the case.
So what you’re saying is that a Chinese with a Uniregistry account is unable to register any .XYZ domains at the moment?
Richard – Or GoDaddy, Name.com etc. This is not an exclusive promo. I’ve asked Negari to confirm.
Can existing Chinese owners renew their XYZ domains then?

Consider the numeric market is not what it was a year or two ago and then decide I suggest
