Homeland.com applied for trademark registration at the USPTO

The operators of Homeland.com have applied for the registration of the matching mark, HOMELAND.COM.

The application at the USPTO was filed for property management; real estate investing, and general contracting. The applicant has already received trademark registration for the HOMELAND keyword as a mark. That application was for hand sanitizer, however.

Who operates Homeland.com?

According to info from DomainTools, that’s the Pillows.com founders, formerly known as Pacific Pillows. They acquired the domain name Pillows.com from National A-1 Advertising in 2013. The Homeland.com owners acquired the domain from its previous owner in late 2013 as well.

Why was HOMELAND.COM applied for as a trademark at the USPTO?

It’s an ongoing trend among owners of generic domain names, following the decision by SCOTUS on the Booking.com trademark application.

Since then, dozens of generic domain names have been applied to be registered as trademarks, inclusive of the TLD. We keep track of these applications, and so far none has been decided upon.

As of January 5th, 2021, BOOKING.COM is a registered trademark with the USPTO.

Will these applications become the new norm? Watch this video from NamesCon Online 2020.
