Austin, Texas based My Job Matcher Inc. operators of the premium domain Job.com have filed for the registration of the matching trademark, JOB.COM.
The mark consists of standard characters, without claim to any particular font style, size, or color. The application was filed with the USPTO offering, among others, the following services that utilize the applied for mark:
Recorded computer programs using artificial intelligence for job placement and employee recruitment;
Recorded computer software using artificial intelligence for job placement and employee recruitment
The domain Job.com was registered in 1994 and was never reported as sold. The mark’s application indicates that the mark was used in commerce as early as on December 1, 2001. The original registrant was architectural services firm Hall & Company, that also operated the domain AEjob.com at the time.
It’s quite possible, more probable than not, that the domain Job.com was sold sometime in 2001 to the current registrant.
Why was JOB.COM applied for as a trademark at the USPTO?
It’s an ongoing trend among owners of generic domain names, following the decision by SCOTUS on the Booking.com trademark application.
Since then, dozens of generic domain names have been applied to be registered as trademarks, inclusive of the TLD. We keep track of these applications, and so far none has been decided upon.
As of January 5th, 2021, BOOKING.COM is a registered trademark with the USPTO.
Will these applications become the new norm? Watch this video from NamesCon Online 2020.
